multiple file select select all

Multiple File Select and Select All

I'm having the same problem that Krun is (quoted below), and not just in the download folder. Every folder except the base user folder (and the desktop oddly) seems to allow only a single file to be selected. I've tried this both with the regular selection method, and the new select by checkbox method.
The weirdest part is that in some folders, sometimes, you can multi-select normally after opening them directly from the start menu. i.e., Pictures, Documents), but only until you move to another folder that cannot and back. It appears that there is some strange permission setting that is fluctuating.
In answer to the question(s) you just thought: * yes, my login is an admin login * yes, I've tried it with the User Account Control both on and off * yes, I've tried it by using run as Administrator on Windows Explorer * I tried it in every folder under C:\ with no luck * The only folders that ever work properly are my user folder and some of the folders *directly* under it * The only time that any of them other than the user folder work correctly is when you select the folder from the start menu directly or occasionally (but not consistently) when you use the favorite links list to select it
Not sure what the heck this is, but it is wierd (and annoying :).

I haven't experienced this problem. But I'm wondering if you're trying to select by lassoing? If so, it may be that you're not starting from neutral territory. What used to be empty space in earlier versions of Windows isn't empty any more. Even if you just get the mouse pointer near an icon, you select that icon. And when you drag, you move the icon rather than select anything. Select All, Ctrl+Click, Shift+Click and the various keyboard methods should work the same as always. But dragging the mouse pointer through icons is tricky in Vista.
